Contractors & Suppliers

As this is a Passive House it is a pre-requiste that all components meet the required standards for insulation, etc. Unless otherwise mentioned, everyone below is based in Devon.

The architects are McLean Quinlan of London & Winchester.

The builders, main contractors and project managers are Goulden & Sons.

The early stage structural engineer was Frank van Loock, and later structural design for the construction was by Airey & Coles.

The quantity surveyor is Treve Hosken of Hosken Parks.

The M&E and Passivhaus consultants are WARM.

Passivhaus certification consultants are Cocreate.

All groundworks are being undertaken by JTT Contracting. The work includes the  partial basement constructed as a concrete box and the beam and block floor for the main house, as well as all below ground work and basic landscaping.

The walls of both the basement and the main house are made from 4Wall SIPS panels from Tribus Homes, who are based not far away in Devon. As former timber-frame house builders, Tribus are also constructing the non-load bearing stud-walls within the house as well as ceilings and the roof, although not the final membrane.

Roofing is by Progressive of Exeter.

Aluminium fabrication by South West Engineering Ltd of Devon.

Scaffolding by Avocet Heron of East Devon.

Brickwork for the garden wall, house facade and more by A & N Stevens Brickwork Contractors of Exeter.

‘Normal’ plastering by Scott Robinson from the Cotswolds.

Special clay plaster by Clayworks of Cornwall, plastered by Remi.

The decorators are SF Decorators based in Plymouth, Devon.

Tiling by Teign Tile & Stone of Torbay, Devon.

The Sto rendering is being installed by Joyner Group of Bristol.

Construction joinery by Eclipse Carpenters of Devon.

The triple-glazed windows and external doors are being supplied by Josko of Austria, represented in the UK by Zipco in London, who also do all the window and door installation and organised the Skema Opera 19 wood flooring.

The Floorboards are being laid by McKay Woodwork of South Devon.

The triple-glazed roof-lights, including the large one over the internal courtyard room, are being supplied by Lamilux of Germany.

The roof-light over the porch is supplied by Veon Glass of Totnes in Devon.

Slim internal windows by Promat.

Translucent privacy film on some windows by Rob of Devon Window Tinting.

Internal joinery (kitchen, and all fitted joinery) is by done by Rozen working with Christian Paul – both from Cornwall. They are also subcontracting Dave Smith of Smithy’s Carpentry.

Lighting control will be by Rako controls based in Kent.

Roller blinds are from Silent Gliss supplied and installed by sg-s, who are just a couple of hundred metres from the site.

Venetian Blinds are supplied by Tidmarsh.

Solar power system (10kw) using Hanwha Q cell 295W modules and Solaredge  monitoring, plus LG Chem battery are being supplied and installed by a very local company,  Sungift Energy.

Thermal batteries are made by Sunamp in Scotland.

Energy management products such as eddi (to manage the batteries) and zappi (to manage the electric vehicle) are being supplied by the British company, myenergi.

Heating and Ventilation by Murch & Baker of Devon, with Air Vent Services Ltd doing the installation.

Underfloor heating installed by Outsourced Energy of Exmouth.

The borehole was drilled an the installation done by Matthew Downing from Somerset.

Electrical installations by Wannells of Exeter.

AV, TV, wifi, etc by Jacobs Aerials of Devon.

Arboriculture work by Sean Ficken of Ace Arboriculture – both clearing and planting.

All turf supplied by HCT Turf of Exeter and laid by Roberts Landscape & Gardening of Exmouth.
